An ancient Technique to produce seamless marble columns, pillasters, walls, floors & practically any architectural element in any combination of colour and design.
Scagliola is a composite of Selenite, Animal glues, natural earth & oxide pigments.
An exceptionally durable plaster, but v lightweight, the plaster can be applied and worked in situ or cast from moulds.
Historical Background
17th century Carpi Italy was the city to which the art was born, imitating marble in a more pictorial effect creating inlays for alter frontals or tables - 'Scagliola Carpigiana'
In Germany at around the same period the technique was developed more specifically to
imitate natural marbles
